Buying premises or investing?

Whether you are buying a premises to operate from, or buying a commercial investment, you need to be sure that you get what you expect and pay for.

That starts by letting your lawyer look at the contract before you sign it!  The single most important thing we do in acting for you on a purchase, is to ensure that the contract provides you with the protections you need.

Then if something comes up on our searches or your due diligence, you can do something about it.

We specialise in looking after business people. We have the experience to know what can go wrong with business premises and investment properties and what to look out for.

Buying a business?

People selling businesses make all sorts of claims about how well the business is doing. Doing the basic searches and conveyancing is fairly simple.  Unravelling the lies and misrepresentations from the promise and blue sky, requires  knowledge and experience. Of course, that starts with having your lawyer check the contract before you sign!

We have seen the devastation that occurs when people come to us after a business purchase has gone wrong. Let us help you make sure that doesn't happen to you!

Leasing?

Most lawyer drafted leases are pretty much the same!  Do you just want a summary of the lease? Or do you want the benefit of the experience of a business specialist to ensure that the provisions of the lease that are most likely to cause you problems, are addressed?

If so, ask us for a quote to help you sort out your lease – it won't cost as much as you might think.

Business transactions and contracts

Business people sign contracts all the time, often without reading or understanding them.  They are just needed to paper the deal – right?

Wrong!  Every contract determines the rights and obligations of the people who enter into it.  Things can and do go horribly wrong. You would be amazed at the nasties in what seem to be routine contracts and application forms! Next time, actually read the fine print that comes with that credit application before you sign it!

Big companies and smart business people want you to sign their contract - for a very good reason.  Usually that is to make sure it is all in their favour! But what can you do about it? Probably not much, unless you have a business expert on your side who can help you identify the really problematic provisions and know how far you are likely to be able push back.

Before you sign  that contract, let us give you a quote to review it! You might be surprised how cost-effective that insurance policy is.
